Grammy-nominated singer Jubilant Sykes was found dead from stab wounds at his home in Santa Monica, U.S., on November 8, with his son arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities reported.

Police arrived after receiving an emergency call about an assault and discovered Sykes, 71, with stab injuries before paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Micah Sykes, 31, who was at the location during the incident, was arrested without resistance, and police recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the killing.

The case has now been referred to the district attorney’s office for further action.
Sykes was known as a versatile baritone who crossed multiple genres, including opera, jazz, gospel, and classical music.

He was nominated for Best Classical Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards for Bernstein: Mass.
In an old interview, Sykes reflected on his relationship with vocal art:
“Singing to me is like breathing it’s part of who I am. I don’t consider it extraordinary. It’s my passion,” he said.

His death is regarded as a major loss to the music world, especially among fans who admired his distinctive voice and performances on prestigious stages such as the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall. —Boom!
