Three Era FM radio presenters, Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin, have been temporarily suspended following the controversy over a video mocking the Thaipusam ceremony. The decision was made by Astro Audio, the operator of the channel, pending the completion of an internal investigation.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to temporarily remove the three individuals from the air until further notice, while we conduct an internal investigation into this incident,” stated Astro Audio.

Previously, the three presenters had admitted their mistake and issued a public apology on social media.
The incident also caught the attention of Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who directed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to conduct a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, National Unity Minister, Aaron Ago Dagang emphasized that appropriate action must be taken under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The controversy erupted when a viral video showed Azad dancing to the chant “vel vel,” which refers to a Hindu deity, before laughing with several other individuals. The chant is often associated with Hindu devotees carrying kavadi during the Thaipusam festival.
Astro Audio, in its statement, also reaffirmed its commitment to cooperate with authorities to ensure full compliance with the established guidelines. – BOOM!
