The National Forensic Agency of South Korea has failed to verify whether an audio recording linked to actor Kim Soo-hyun was manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The recording, released by the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute in May, allegedly features actress Kim Sae-ron revealing a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun while she was still in high school.
According to The Korea Times, Gangnam police stated that the forensic agency’s report concluded that it was “indeterminable” due to technical limitations.

The agency did not have sufficient technical evidence to confirm whether the Kim Soo-hyun audio was original or altered using AI.
“We cannot determine whether the recording has been modified or is authentic,” said an official.

Previously, Kim Sae-ron’s family held a press conference asserting that the 90-minute recording contained a confession that their daughter had a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun from high school to college, and claimed it was emotionally manipulated.
PKim Soo-hyun’s side, however, denied the allegations, claiming the recording was created using AI technology and filed a complaint against the head of Garo Sero Research Institute, Kim Se-ui, on charges of defamation.

Kim Soo-hyun has been implicated in claims of having a relationship with underage Kim Sae-ron during their school years. His agency has denied the allegations. Nevertheless, the claims damaged Kim Soo-hyun’s career, prompting him to file an $8.8 million (≈RM36 million) defamation lawsuit against the deceased’s family.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner Park Jeong-woo stated that authorities are finalizing a comprehensive investigation, including reviewing all evidence before making an official decision on the case.
“The investigation is in its final stage, including the final analysis of all collected materials,” he said.

The case remains ongoing, continuing to stir controversy among fans and the public. -Boom!
