After more than two decades navigating the ups and downs of marriage, veteran actor Edika Yusof admitted he’s come to terms with his wife Nor Hidayah’s decision to file for divorce last February after 22 years of marriage.
“I’ve been married for over 22 years. I took care of her for nearly 19 years when she was ill. So, when she only now offers to ‘free’ me, I feel it’s too late.”
According to the Maria Mariana film actor, the excuse of supposedly ‘freeing’ him is hard to accept because he never asked to be let go all this time.
“She said she wanted to free me, so I could live a new life. Alright, thank you. Consider it a birthday gift for me tomorrow. But if that was her intention, she should’ve told me long ago.”
Edika also shared that he’s used to shouldering household responsibilities and has tried several times to discuss things, but his efforts were ignored.
“I’ve never hidden anything. My phone, my bank account, she could see everything. But it seems she’s really serious about separating.”
More heartbreakingly, their children reportedly made no effort to reconcile their parents’ relationship.
“I waited to see if they’d do something to bring us back together, but I didn’t see anything. Maybe that’s how this generation is. Now, I’m on my own.”
Edika also revealed he once suffered from depression and sought treatment due to emotional stress bottled up for too long.
“I took care of my wife for years. But people only saw her as the sick one. I went through anxiety, met with a counselor. I had no one to confide in… My parents are gone too.”
“Sometimes I pushed her too hard to be independent because I was worried about who’d take care of her if I’m gone someday. But maybe she couldn’t accept my approach.”
Despite the bitterness, deep down, Edika still hopes their relationship can be mended peacefully.
It’s understood that the next mention of their divorce case is scheduled for April 23, after Edika failed to attend the first proceeding earlier. – BOOM!
