Shiha Zikir gave an explanation after the music video (MV) for her latest Raya song, ‘Tum Tum Raya’, received criticism for being seen as less than polite.
According to Shiha, the comedy elements and lively dance in the MV were purely to entertain viewers.
“Raya songs before this I kept normal, but this year I added some comedy. Not over the top or extreme, just a lively dance to show the energy difference between me and my sister.
There was no intention behind it, just that those who know me will understand my personality. I don’t see the comments negatively and take them with an open heart. Sorry if anyone feels uncomfortable, my goal was just to entertain people,” she explained.
Meanwhile, her sister and duet partner, Ieda Zikir, stressed that their MV concept didn’t go against traditional culture, but instead brought a modern approach.
“In the music video, we didn’t even include ketupat or Raya lights at all. It’s really heading towards a modern vibe, different from others, just for fun.
For any moves, Shiha would ask me because she was worried too about going overboard. As long as it doesn’t harm culture, it’s fine,” said Ieda.
The song ‘Tum Tum Raya’, composed by Ajay Amai and Napie Hassan, was released on March 5 along with an MV featuring fast-cut and slow-motion editing techniques.
However, Shiha’s energetic dance in the video sparked debate, with some feeling it wasn’t quite right for a Syawal-themed song.
Shiha now just hopes her work can be accepted with open hearts and bring joy to fans during this festive season. – BOOM!
