In a rare public appearance, renowned Hollywood actor and environmental activist, Leonardo DiCaprio drew attention when he personally went into the sea to collect plastic waste in the waters of Formentera, Spain.

The Titanic star’s action of swimming with a group of children while picking up plastic debris was part of the filming for a new environmental documentary focusing on Posidonia oceanica – an endangered seagrass species crucial to the Mediterranean ecosystem.
Photos of DiCaprio on this mission went viral on social media – some showing him diving to collect trash, discussing with the documentary production crew, and entering the sea with the kids.
However, while many praised his efforts, there were also plenty who questioned his actions.
“Picking up plastic one day, flying private jets every day. Such irony,” quipped one social media user.
This isn’t the first time the 49-year-old star has faced criticism. Earlier this year, Leonardo was slammed after reports surfaced that he took a private jet to escape wildfires in Los Angeles with model Vittoria Ceretti, landing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
That action sparked heated debate, causing many to question his image as a “climate warrior.”
In response to the criticism, Leonardo later announced a USD 1 million donation to support wildfire recovery efforts in Los Angeles County. – BOOM!
