Singer Nubhan Ahamad and his wife, Dr Afifah Hidayah Ahmad Tawfek, appeared at the Sepang Lower Syariah Court today to file for confirmation of two divorce pronouncements (talak) made in 2017 and again in August this year.
As the plaintiff, Nubhan is seeking the court’s validation of two divorce declarations and one reconciliation pronouncement.
According to Afifah’s lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, when a divorce pronouncement is made outside the court, the cause or reason for the divorce becomes irrelevant.
“It’s common — when a pronouncement is made outside the court, the reason is no longer relevant.
The court will only assess whether the divorce was declared intentionally, in a sound state of mind, and without coercion or threats.
Essentially, that’s what matters most,”
said Akberdin, as quoted by Harian Metro.Earlier reports claimed that Nubhan — whose full name is Ahmad Nubhan Ahamad, 39 — had pronounced divorce inside a car last August.
After nearly a decade of marriage, the couple shares three children who have been the joy and bond of their family.
Regardless of the court’s final decision, it is hoped that Nubhan and Afifah can find the best resolution for the wellbeing of their children and their future.
