The announcement of a solo performance by Girls’ Generation member Seohyun at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul has sparked criticism, with some accusing her of leveraging her celebrity status to perform as a solo violinist.

Since her debut with Girls’ Generation, Seohyun has remained active as a singer, songwriter, and actress.
According to The Korea Times, on January 14, her agency Kkum Entertainment announced that Seohyun will perform on March 13 with the Sol Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble made up of non-professional musicians.
The announcement drew mixed reactions online, with some netizens arguing that classical music is a serious discipline requiring innate talent from a young age and years of intensive training.

“Learning the violin for five months… there are things you simply shouldn’t touch.
Classical instruments require natural talent discovered before the age of six, and it’s not something you can try just because you have money,” wrote an anonymous Naver user.
However, Seohyun said her goal is to express sincerity and love for music rather than technical perfection.

“Instead of the perfection of a professional performer, I want to show the pure passion of someone who truly enjoys music,” she said.
At the concert, Seohyun will perform Csardas by Vittorio Monti, while the orchestra will also present Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Márquez. –BOOM!
