President of the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman), Zed Zaidi, has urged the government to consider bringing back caning in schools as a form of warning for students who break disciplinary rules.
Zed, who is also an actor, believes that such action can help shape students into more well-mannered and disciplined individuals.

However, he emphasized that caning should not be used recklessly or with the intent to harm.
“If possible, bring back the authority for discipline teachers to cane students — not to injure them, but as a lesson. This is what happened during my school days,” he told Boom! Malaysia.
According to him, his personal experiences growing up have shown that caning helps cultivate responsibility and prevents modern-day students from becoming overly pampered.
