On July 18, South Korea’s Supreme Court upheld a six-month prison sentence, suspended with a one-year probation period, for Yang Hyun Suk, the executive producer of YG Entertainment.
Yang Hyun Suk was previously tried on charges of intimidating a whistleblower known as ‘A’ in connection with a drug abuse case involving former iKON member, B.I.

The case began when ‘A,’ who was investigated for a drug-related case in 2016, informed the police that B.I was involved in purchasing drugs.
However, Yang Hyun Suk was found to have threatened ‘A’ to retract their statement, temporarily delaying the investigation before the case was reopened.
Initially, the District Court ruled that Yang Hyun Suk was not guilty of retaliatory intimidation.
However, after an appeal by the prosecution, the Appeals Court found that Yang Hyun Suk had indeed used his position as an executive of a major entertainment company to pressure ‘A’ into retracting their statement.
The court stated, “The defendant’s actions clearly obstructed the legal process, as the criminal investigation had to be temporarily postponed.”
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, Yang Hyun Suk, through a statement issued by YG Entertainment, expressed disappointment with the decision but accepted it with an open heart.
He further stated that he will be more cautious and responsible in carrying out his duties moving forward. – BOOM!
