More than two decades have passed since the popular reality show Akademi Fantasia’s first season (AF1) aired in 2003, yet one ‘small mystery’ still lingers in the minds of netizens.
Were the luggage bags carried out by eliminated contestants really theirs, or just props?

Addressing the question many have asked, former AF1 contestant, Nana Mahazan stepped forward to unveil the secret that has long been a puzzle.
Through a post on her TikTok account, Nana, whose real name is Nurul Hana Che Mahazan, 43, revealed that every contestant indeed had to pack and bring their real bags to the concert stage each week.
“For AF1, we really had to pack our bags every week.
The bag placed on stage during the elimination was indeed the eliminated student’s bag,” Nana explained.

She added that by the third week of the competition, many contestants took precautions by no longer unpacking their clothes from their bags, knowing the bags had to be brought to the concert weekly.
“We stopped taking clothes out of the bags because we knew we’d have to repack.
When eliminated, you’d grab the bag and leave right away. You wouldn’t even see your AF friends again until the show ended,” she said.
However, Nana understood that this practice only applied to the first season.

For later seasons, it’s likely the bags dragged on stage were just random ones used as a gimmick, with contestants collecting their actual bags after the show.
For info, Nana was eliminated in the seventh week of AF1, which saw Vince crowned champion, followed by Khai (runner-up) and Aziz (third place). – BOOM!
