Despite receiving little attention in South Korea, the drama ‘The Potato Lab‘, starring Kang Tae Oh and Lee Sun Bin, has created a global phenomenon on Netflix.
According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of the drama, which aired on 1 March, recorded only 1.7% viewership nationwide, while the second episode saw a slight increase to 1.8%. However, the situation is different internationally.
Based on FlixPatrol data as of 3 March, ‘The Potato Lab‘ successfully entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, ranking 7th in the TV shows category. Even more impressively, the drama also secured the 9th spot in Netflix’s largest market, the United States – an extraordinary achievement!
This drama also marks Kang Tae Oh’s return after completing his military service, following his popularity in ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo‘.
Although its ratings in Korea are somewhat underwhelming, the global success of ‘The Potato Lab’ proves that the value of a drama cannot be measured solely by domestic viewership.
This is yet another testament to how the quality and appeal of a work can gain wider recognition on a global scale. – BOOM!
