Indonesian celebrity couple, Baim Wong and Paula Verhoeven are now officially divorced after a lengthy trial process since October 2024. The news was confirmed by the South Jakarta Religious Court’s spokesperson, Suryana, on Wednesday (April 16).
According to Suryana, the divorce petition filed by Baim on October 8, 2024, was granted by the panel of judges after evidence of marital disputes and the presence of a third party was proven in court.
“In the trial, the claims about disputes in their household were proven true. His lawsuit and petition have been accepted by the panel of judges,” Suryana told Grid.ID.
More shockingly, Suryana revealed that the presence of another man with the initials NS was the main cause of the breakdown of their marriage.
“Based on evidence and confessions during the trial… the man with the initials NS was confirmed by the panel of judges,” he said.
Due to the proven involvement of a third party, Paula Verhoeven was declared a nusyuz wife. Under Islamic law, this status caused her to lose the right to claim iddah and madiah maintenance.
“This decision makes Paula Verhoeven a nusyuz wife… With the proven presence of a third party, her rights as a wife to be divorced were rejected,” Suryana explained.
Prior to the decision, Paula had demanded madiah maintenance of Rp800 million (Rp100 million per month) and iddah maintenance of Rp600 million (Rp200 million per month), but all claims were rejected by the court.
In a more positive development, custody of their children was granted jointly to Baim and Paula, without any disputes. – BOOM!
