The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today acquitted singer Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, of a charge of consuming drugs.

Magistrate S. Arunjothy delivered the decision after Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa informed the court that the pathology results were negative and that the prosecution had withdrawn the charge.
“The court hereby acquits and discharges the accused of the charge, and the bail money (RM2,000) is to be refunded,” she said, as quoted by Bernama.

Namewee was accused of committing the act in the restroom of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at 7.15 pm on October 22.

Under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, if convicted, the singer could have faced a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, as well as supervision for a period of two to three years.

However, he is still facing another charge for possession of drugs suspected to be ecstasy, weighing 5.12 grams, at a hotel room along Jalan Conlay here at 4.30 pm on the same day, October 22, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, Namewee could be sentenced to imprisonment of between two and five years, along with not fewer than three strokes of the cane and up to a maximum of nine strokes. –Boom!
