Maya Karin revealed that when she nearly drowned while filming the movie Duyung at sea, her co-star Saiful Apek appeared as a hero at the right moment to save her.

She said Apek acted quickly and bravely, preventing the incident from turning into a tragedy.
“Apek came straight to me and he was the fastest to save me,” she told BOOM!

According to Maya, the experience was not only a lesson but also a reminder to KRU Studios about the importance of safety.
“It’s the same production team behind Duyung, so they are more alert and careful in managing the sequel, Duyung: Legend of Aurora,” she said.

She added that filming for the fantasy comedy this time involved three actors who occasionally had to jump into the water, making safety supervision even more critical.
“This time there are three mermaids… occasionally the three of us have to jump into the sea; safety is extremely important because the production is no longer looking after one mermaid, but three. However, I trust the production team to take care of all our well-being,” she said.

Earlier, the film’s director, Associate Professor Datuk Dr A. Razak Mohaideen, shared that Maya had nearly drowned twice during filming due to the heavy costume she was wearing.

According to him, the old costume material was rather stiff and heavy, which affected movement and made the tail look less organic.
Besides Maya and Apek, Duyung: Legend of Aurora, starring Anna Jobling, Ayie Floor 88, Maya Karin, Saiful Apek, and Yasmin Hani, is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on 25 December. -Boom!
