The lyricist of Masuk Lagi, performed by singer Baby Shima, has clarified that the song contains no obscene or sexual elements, contrary to claims made by some individuals.
Ajim Maze explained that Masuk Lagi was created to depict the traditional process of meminang—the formal visit of a man’s family to the woman’s family to propose marriage, a practice deeply rooted in Malay culture.
“The song is a storytelling sketch that reflects the visit of the man’s family to the woman’s family for the purpose of marriage proposal. This tradition has long been an integral part of our culture,” he told Boom!
Ajim expressed his disappointment over those who misinterpreted the lyrics of Masuk Lagi, accusing them of applying a “dirty mindset” for sensational purposes.
He also described the actions of some fellow artists who publicly criticized the song as unfair and hypocritical.
“It is not fair when a work is judged based on personal assumptions rather than the creator’s intent and explanation. Artistic works should be evaluated with knowledge, context, and intent—not based on emotions or personal agendas. Many of them have gone through phases in their careers where their performances, outfits, and lyrics were heavily scrutinized,” he said.
For Ajim, the entertainment industry should be a space for mutual support and growth, not a platform for tearing each other down.
He added that if there are genuine concerns about content, a more mature and professional approach would be to offer personal advice.
“It feels as though some are racing to become ‘moral heroes’ in the eyes of netizens,” he concluded. -Boom!
