The Malaysian Artistes Association (Karyawan) has condemned the circulation of a false video titled “David Arumugam in Critical Condition” concerning the health of the legendary singer.

Karyawan President, Datuk Freddie Fernandez, stated that the irresponsible act of spreading fake news could jeopardize the singer’s professional opportunities.
“Karyawan has received an official report from Alleycats Official and its lead vocalist, David Arumugam, regarding the dissemination of a video containing false and defamatory information about him. He is actually in good health and continues to perform with his fellow Alleycats members as usual,” he said in a statement.

Following the incident, Karyawan has sent an official letter to the Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, urging the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take strict action against those responsible for spreading the fake video.

Freddie expressed hope that the MCMC would establish clear guidelines and coordinated measures to protect local artistes from online defamation and digital platform misuse, while also engaging in discussions with Karyawan to better regulate digital content.
“This firm action is not only to defend the dignity of artistes but also to ensure that the country’s entertainment industry remains healthy and full of integrity,” he added. —Boom!
