Renowned actor Jung Joon has spoken up in defense of Cho Jin-woong following the latter’s announcement of retirement amid controversy surrounding his past juvenile record and allegations of sexual assault.

In a social media post, Jung shared an empathetic perspective on his fellow actor’s situation. According to him, no human is free from mistakes, and society should not reject someone solely because of their past.
“Forgiveness — if we all have to live with our mistakes, no one would be able to stand confidently in front of others. I’m no different,” he said.

Jung also reminisced about Cho’s professionalism on set, describing him as humble and always helpful toward the crew.
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging a person’s capacity for change and allowing room for growth.

He added that there is no clear guide on how to forgive, but it requires empathy and space for someone to improve and rebuild themselves.

Earlier, Cho Jin-woong had announced his intention to retire from acting as a step toward taking responsibility for his past misconduct. In an official statement, he apologized to fans and vowed to accept all criticism with an open heart. —Boom!
