The issue of religious and cultural sensitivity in Malaysia has once again become a hot topic after the popular K-Pop group NCT Wish announced their first concert in Malaysia as part of their ‘INTO THE WISH: Our WISH’ tour, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur on March 7, 2026.
However, the announcement received backlash from many local fans as the concert date is said to fall during the month of Ramadan next year.
Many netizens questioned the decision of the organizers, which they deemed insensitive to the religious sensitivities of the Muslim community in the country.
“How could they think of holding a concert during the fasting month?
Change the date,” commented one netizen.
As of now, the organizers have not issued any response regarding the fans’ demands to reconsider the concert date.
For context, NCT Wish is the latest sub-unit and the Japanese unit of the renowned South Korean group NCT under SM Entertainment.
The group consists of six members: Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo, and Sakuya.
They debuted with the song “Hands Up” in October 2023 and, in 2024, were recognized by the Grammys in the United States as one of the “11 Rookie K-Pop Acts to Know in 2024.”
