Universal Music Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its review processes for all creative plans, including internal discussions and professional consultations, to ensure that the recent controversy over Dolla’s revealing outfits does not recur.

Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia, Kim Lim, said the company has decided to remove the Question music video from all digital platforms as a responsible step and to respect the sensitivities of Malaysia’s multiracial and multi-religious society.

In a statement, Lim said the decision was made after reassessing the entire production content and taking into account public feedback.
“As a recording label operating within a diverse ecosystem like Malaysia, we consistently respect cultural values, religious sensitivities, and the views of fans. We take all feedback seriously and accept full responsibility for any oversight that may have occurred,” she said.

She added that Universal Music Malaysia believes creativity and artistic expression must go hand-in-hand with sensitivity to local norms.
This action was taken after the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, stated that his office is reviewing possible syariah criminal action against Muslim celebrities who wear revealing clothing.

Before this, prominent preacher Ustazah Asma’ Harun issued an open reprimand regarding Dolla’s appearance in the music video, describing it as immoral and disgraceful to Muslim women. — Boom!
