A former police officer who was found guilty of leaking confidential investigation details involving the late South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun has been sentenced to prison.

According to legal sources, prosecutors on Monday sought a three-year jail sentence for the former inspector, identified only by the initial “A”, during a trial at the Incheon District Court, presided over by Judge Kim Saet Byeol of the 11th Criminal Division.
“A” was charged with leaking official secrets and several other offenses related to the drug case involving Lee Sun Gyun.

As reported by AllKpop, investigations revealed that in October 2023, “A” allegedly sent an investigative report containing personal details, including names, occupations, and criminal records of individuals connected to the case, to two journalists, one of whom was identified by the initial “B.”
The confidential information was later leaked to the public in December 2023, shortly after Lee Sun Gyun’s death.

After being dismissed from the police force, the former inspector filed a lawsuit against the Incheon Police Chief seeking to overturn his dismissal, but he lost in the first trial.

The case is scheduled to be heard again on December 17 at the Incheon District Court. – Boom!
