Expressing life experiences through music has truly paid off for Mimi Fly. Her latest single, “Angkat,” has not only received an overwhelming response with over 400,000 views on YouTube since its release on December 28 but has also gone viral across various social media platforms.
According to Mimi, the song “Angkat” reflects her feelings when dealing with toxic individuals who tried to tarnish her reputation.
“This song is born from my own experience. I’ve dealt with people who like to talk behind my back and try to ruin my reputation. ‘Angkat’ reflects how I feel about no longer engaging with them,” she said.
This modern dangdut genre song, inspired by the legendary Iwan Dangdut, brings a unique twist with the inclusion of classic elements like songket and batik in its music video. Moreover, the choreography of the song features the use of sign language.
“As the child of a person with disabilities, I want to reach out to this group so they feel more connected to the art I create,” explained Mimi.
The comment section on YouTube was flooded with praise, with fans saying the two-minute-and-17-second duration of the song felt too short.
Now operating as an indie artist, the former member of One Nation Emcees is grateful for the support from fans across Southeast Asia.
“I just want my work to be heard. Whatever feedback I get, I accept it with an open heart. Your support means a lot for my comeback in the music industry,” she said with hope. – BOOM!
