Disney has reportedly paused the live-action Tangled film project following the lackluster performance of the Snow White remake at the global box office.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, all pre-production work for the live-action Tangled adaptation is now on hold, even though it was announced in December 2024 that The Greatest Showman director, Michael Gracey and Thor: Love and Thunder writer, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson had been chosen to lead the project.
Tangled, the animated film released in 2010 with Mandy Moore voicing Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, raked in over $592.5 million worldwide — a stark contrast to Snow White, which only earned around $145.7 million despite a hefty $270 million budget.
Controversy also started plaguing Snow White even before production began, leading Disney to reportedly reassess its strategy for adapting classic animated films into live-action versions.
Although the Tangled project is frozen, Disney is still moving forward with several other live-action projects, including Lilo & Stitch, scheduled for release on May 23, 2025, and Moana on July 10, 2026. – BOOM!
