Ahmad Dhani surprised many when he revealed plans to reunite Dewa 19 with their 2000s-era vocalist, Once Mekel.
This historic moment is set to take place at the wedding of his eldest son, Al Ghazali.
The event is scheduled for June 19, 2025, where Al will tie the knot with his partner, Alyssa Daguise.
This was announced by Dhani during his appearance as a guest on the Naik Clas podcast with Soleh Solihun and Ari Lesmana, aired on the Authenticity ID YouTube channel.
“Al’s wedding, Dewa will perform too.
I might invite Once because Al is a big Dewa fan,” said Ahmad Dhani.
According to him, Once’s presence isn’t just an ordinary performance. Dewa’s songs from Once’s era carry strong nostalgia from Al’s childhood.
“Dewa 19 with Once was Al’s childhood.
If Once sings with Dewa, Al might cry. During Ari Lasso’s era, Al wasn’t born yet,” he said.
Even more exciting, Dhani confirmed he has already contacted Once and received a positive response.
Although their relationship was once strained due to song royalty issues, Dhani sees this event as an opportunity for reconciliation, especially after Al expressed his desire for Once to perform with Dewa again.
