Famous singer and former One Direction member Liam Payne was confirmed to have died from polytrauma, according to preliminary findings from an inquest at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court, UK, on December 17.
Payne, 31, was reported to have passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Polytrauma, a medical term for multiple traumatic injuries involving body organs, was confirmed as the cause of death by Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen.
During the proceedings, Senior Coroner Crispin Butler stated that investigations in Argentina into the incident are still ongoing and will take time before all relevant information can be obtained.
“The process of obtaining information through official channels at the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) may take time before we can determine how Liam died,” said Butler.
The inquest was also informed that Payne had been identified with the assistance of a funeral director in Buckinghamshire.
A further inquest hearing has been scheduled for November 6 to continue the preliminary investigation and gather more details about this tragic incident.
