Renowned singer Akon has filed a counter-petition in court seeking full legal and physical custody of his 17-year-old daughter, Journey.
The filing comes after his wife, Tomeka Thiam, initiated divorce proceedings in September, just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
According to court documents obtained by People, Akon has requested that the court deny spousal support for Tomeka, stating that he is only willing to provide financial support and care for their daughter.
Previously, Tomeka sought sole custody of Journey along with financial support. Akon’s counter-filing reflects his desire to remain actively involved in his daughter’s life despite the couple’s ongoing separation.
