Renowned producer and composer Datuk Norman Abdul Halim has revealed that the selection of Adira Suhaimi and Shahir Zawawi as the singers for the soundtrack (OST) of the sequel to the film Duyung was based on their strong vocal abilities.
He stated that the collaboration was made easier because both are his former students from Akademi Fantasia 8 (AF8).
“The song Hanya Kamu requires a strong vocal duet to bring out the dramatic emotions in Duyung: Legenda Aurora. The first person who came to mind was Adira, given her reputation as the Queen of OSTs. From there, the idea to pair her with Shahir emerged, since both were my students from AF about 15 years ago,” Norman told Boom!.
The song marks their first collaboration since AF8 ended in 2010.
Adira expressed her excitement at the opportunity to duet with Shahir again after seven years, reminiscing about the nostalgia of AF and their past collaborations.
“The last time I met Shahir was seven years ago, and we’ve never performed a duet together except during AF competitions. I really didn’t expect this opportunity, and it certainly brings back a lot of nostalgia,” she said.
Shahir shared his enthusiasm for performing a heartfelt song in a new R&B style, which he had never tried before.
“The lyrics and melody of Hanya Kamu are very touching, and I’m thrilled to sing it in a new R&B genre that I haven’t tried before,” he said.
Duyung: Legenda Aurora, starring Anna Jobling, Maya Karin, and Saiful Apek, is directed by Prof Datuk Dr A Razak Mohaideen. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on 25 December.

According to Norman, the song, distributed by Sony Music, is available on all digital streaming platforms starting today, while the official music video will be released on the KRU Music YouTube channel at 8:00 PM.
