Talented actor Amerul Affendi, 38, is set to further his studies by pursuing a master’s degree in performing arts at Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), Tanjung Malim, through the APEL Q program. This decision marks the first step toward achieving his dream of becoming a lecturer.

APEL Q is an academic qualification assessment method based on work experience and non-formal education, allowing individuals with over 10 years of experience to continue their studies without following the conventional academic path.

“Insya-Allah, this year I plan to continue my studies at UPSI. I’ve chosen the same field, which is performing arts. I’ll be joining the APEL Q program, which is based on our work experience.

“They’re looking for experienced individuals who have worked for at least 10 years. I’m continuing my studies because I want to teach; I want to become a lecturer,” he said.

Amerul, who previously earned a bachelor’s degree in theater from the National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA), shared that he will be enrolling in the program full-time starting next month.

The actor, who won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 27th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM), believes that the knowledge he has gained throughout his career in the arts industry should be expanded and shared with the new generation. He also feels that formal education will help him remain relevant in the local creative industry.

In addition to focusing on his studies, Amerul will also appear in the film Limbungan: Tragedi Hitam 1975, set to hit theaters on February 6. – BOOM!
