Singer Ernie Zakri expressed her sympathy for her fellow artist, Aina Abdul, who faced criticism from netizens after not winning at the 39th Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL 39).
Ernie, 33, admitted she understands Aina’s feelings as she herself has been a victim of cyberbullying before.
“I’m just like Aina, I often get cyberbullied. You could say I face criticism almost every day.
“Even though I’m not in Aina’s position, I understand what she’s feeling. The impact of AJL is huge on mental health.
“Perhaps Aina became a target because she is Aina Abdul. A singer with a big name, so the focus tends to be more on her,” she said during a media conference for her Ernie Zakri Live in Singapore concert yesterday.
To protect her mental health, Ernie has her own way of avoiding the effects of netizens’ criticism.
“Usually, I avoid social media every time I finish a big event like a concert or AJL.
“After three or four days, when everything has calmed down, only then will I check social media,” she said.
Meanwhile, the winner of the Best Vocal trophy at AJL 39 also prayed for Aina to stay strong in facing this challenge.
“I believe Aina is a strong person because this isn’t the first time she’s been criticized. But of course, Aina is affected because I’ve read some of the comments.
“I don’t understand why this issue has been blown out of proportion. I hope Aina’s spirit will recover, and I pray for her success, insya-Allah,” Ernie shared.
Previously, Aina admitted she was hurt by the continuous criticism, leading her to cry and stay at home for a week after AJL 39. – BOOM!
