Lawyer Asiah Abd Jalil has shared her perspective on the issue involving Ellie Suriaty, who demanded that influencer Imran Bard’s parents apologize to her.
Through a Facebook post, Asiah expressed her confusion over Ellie’s reaction, as she seemed offended by Imran’s parody content, even though the influencer mentioned other celebrities in his video as well.

“Everyone knows it’s just parody content. In other videos, Imran Bard also mentioned other people’s names. Only Ellie Suriaty got upset, which is strange.”
According to Asiah, parody is not a legal offense under the proposed amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“My comment is, under the proposed amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act, parody is not a crime.”
Additionally, Asiah dismissed claims that Imran’s parody video contained defamatory elements, especially since it was created purely for entertainment.
“There’s nothing defamatory in the parody video. Everyone knows Ellie Suriaty is not a singer or a reality singing show contestant. Imran Bard was just creating light-hearted content for entertainment.”
The lawyer also questioned Ellie’s demand for Imran’s parents to apologize, pointing out that the influencer is no longer a child.
“Imran Bard is not a child. Under the law, any wrongdoing by Imran Bard (if any) cannot be blamed on his parents. Ellie Suriaty has no right to make such a demand.”
Previously, Ellie held a press conference expressing her dissatisfaction with Imran’s video content, which she claimed mocked her artistic reputation built over 30 years. She also demanded that Imran’s parents meet her to apologize. – BOOM!
