Famous actress Kate Winslet is now ready to expand her talents into film directing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Titanic star will direct a film titled Goodbye June for Netflix.
Besides directing, Kate will also serve as a producer and actress in the film, which will feature an impressive cast, including Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren. The script was written by Joe Anders, her son with ex-husband Sam Mendes. Filming is set to begin soon in the UK.
Kate admitted that she often received encouragement from industry peers to become a director.
“So many people will say to me on film sets, people I work with and know well, whether it’s an actor or a crew member, they will say, ‘Why aren’t you directing?’ and I’ll go ‘No, no, no, please don’t say it. Stop saying it. Why does everyone keep saying it?'” she said.
However, she now feels that the time has come for her to take this bold step. Kate also emphasized the importance of having more women in directing roles.
With her vast experience in the industry and deep understanding of the technical aspects of filmmaking, Kate is confident in her ability to direct a film successfully.
“There’s no way I’m ever going to do something unless I really know how to do it properly,” she stated.
Previously, Kate starred in Lee and the HBO series The Regime, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She also won an Oscar for Best Actress for The Reader in 2009. – BOOM!
