Independent preacher Wan Halim Md Yusoff emphasized that a marriage remains valid as long as it fulfills the five pillars of nikah as prescribed in Islamic law.
He explained that the key factor determining a marriage’s validity is the completion of all essential conditions and requirements, while administrative approval must still be obtained from the State Islamic Religious Department (JAIN).
“The fundamental aspect that determines whether a marriage is valid or not is the completeness of its pillars and conditions. In addition, couples must obtain marriage approval from the State Islamic Religious Department to comply with legal administrative procedures,” he explained.
He further advised that if there is an error in the marriage registration date, couples should verify the information and refer to the witnesses of the akad nikah ceremony.
“If possible, check the certificate first and do a cross-check. The religious department should also correct the registration date if there’s a mistake, based on verification from the wedding witnesses,” he said during a recent radio interview.
Earlier, actress Uqasha Senrose questioned the status of her marriage with Kamal Adli after discovering a discrepancy in the date stated on their marriage certificate.
However, the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP) confirmed that the couple’s marriage remains valid under Islamic law.
According to JAIP’s official record, the couple was married on November 4, 2021, at 9:30 p.m. at Masjid Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Bentong.
